Breakouts of acne can also arise from blockages to the pores, as excess oil, sebum and dead skin cells accumulate on the skin’s surface.
Whilst manual extraction through picking or squeezing the affected area brings some immediate relief or satisfaction, it is not recommended as this can cause further damage to the skin through rupturing the skin which may result in scarring.
Where infection is present, picking the skin can cause the infection to be more readily spread by the bacteria being transmitted via the fingertips as debris can easily get trapped under the nails in particular.
Acne scarring is recognisable as an uneven texture to the skin that may resemble craters, dips or take on a ‘rolling’ appearance.
