The eyes are often the first place to be most affected by the signs of ageing. As they age, they develop trough-like hollows where the top of the cheekbone meets the under-eye. These are known as tear troughs. This results in the tear trough becoming deeper and darker in appearance and eye bags can start to appear and can accentuate dark circles under the eyes.

The cause is a loss of facial volume and tissue elasticity in the cheek area as well as under the eye along with a mild reduction in bone volume and a general descent of skin.

Surgery, usually in the form of a lower eyelid lift (blepharoplasty), is not always appropriate to correct tear trough shadowing, although people with very loose skin or pronounced eye-bags will benefit.

At Nassif Medspa we only use fillers that are designed for the eye area.

Tear Trough Rejuvenation FAQ's

What does the tear trough procedure involve?

At Nassif Medspa we use small innovative micro cannulas to give precise injections of dermal filler along the eyelid hollows. The results are instant and last between six and 12 months.

Please note: Any injectable procedure will only be undertaken after your face to face consultation with one of our medical practitioners, during which a full assessment will be carried out and full list of cautions and contraindications discussed.

Who is suitable?

Some patients may not be suitable for this procedure and may need alternative methods to treat their tear troughs. Patients may benefit from a combination of cosmetic eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) and tear trough injections. This can also be used in synergy with mid face dermal filler injections which in turn improves the appearance of the eye area. We will be able to advise about the best option for you and your facial structure.

Does it hurt?

No. We use a local anaesthetic with the filler so that any discomfort is minimal – at Nassif Medspa, we use Juvéderm as our filler of choice, due to it’s softness, but we also use other products depending on patients requirements.

Are there any risks or side effects?

Even with a skilled, experienced doctor you may experience minor lumpiness, swelling, puffiness or bruising even in experienced hands and generally lasts up to 48 hours. More rarely the injections can cause longer lasting redness under the eye. Complications will usually improve and resolve with time. As we use non-permanent filler it is reversible, and we are contactable at all times if you have any concerns or questions.
